Safaa Fathy is an Egyptian poet, documentary filmmaker, playwright, and essayist.

She is best known for her film Derrida's Elsewhere, a documentary which focuses on the life and concepts of controversial philosopher Jacques Derrida.

She was born in Upper Egypt in 1958, and studied English Literature in Cairo, She received her PhD on Bertolt Brecht from the Sorbonne in 1993. In East Berlin she worked with the Deutsches Theater.

She is currently director of programme at the International College of Philosophy in Paris.
