Daoud Abdel Sayed
Egyptian film director Daoud Abdel Sayed is an award-winning film director of many successful films, very well known in the Arab world. His films include adaptations from novels, in particular the film Kit Kat from the novel Malik al-Hazeen (The Heron) by Ibrahim Aslan (1935-2012) which enjoyed considerable success amongst both audiences and critics. The second film he adapted from a literary work was Sariq al-Farah (Thief of Happiness), adapted from the short story of the same title by the well-loved Egyptian author Khairy Shalaby (1938–2011). He was interviewed especially for Banipal 62's feature collaboration with the 2018 SAFAR Film Festival – A Literary Journey through Arab Cinema – by Egyptian author and journalist Mansoura Ez-Eldin (see pages 160-165).
