Catherine Cobham is Head of the Department of Arabic and Persian at the University of St Andrews. She has translated a number of contemporary authors including Naguib Mahfouz, Yusuf Idris, Adonis, Fuad al-Takarli, Mahmoud Darwish and Hanan al-Shaykh. She has also published  research on aspects of modern Arabic literature including, with Fabio Caiani, The Iraqi Novel: Key Writers, Key Texts (Edinburgh University Press, 2013).
