Hassan Abdel Mawgoud is an Egyptian writer and journalist, born in 1976, who has published three short story collections and two novels. His first novel, Cat’s Eye, won a Sawiris Cultural Prize in 2005 and has been published in German translation. His collection Huroub Fatina (Ravishing Wars), published by Al-Kotob Khan, Cairo, 2018, won the 2020 Yusuf Idris Prize. In 2003 Abdel Mawgoud won the Dubai Journalism Award for his reportage entitled Tales of the Monks of Natron Valley. He lives in Cairo and is deputy editor of the literary weekly Akhbar Al-Adab.
