Thaer Deeb was born in Latakia, Syria, in 1962. A writer, editor and prolific translator of cultural and philosophical works into Arabic, he is dedicated to translation and cultural work. He is presently Deputy Director of the Translation Unit at the Arab Centre for Research and Policy Studies.

Between 2012 and 2014 he was editor-in-chief of Tabween, the Centre’s quarterly magazine of intellectual and cultural studies. He was an advisor for the “Knowledge Transfer” project between UNESCO and Bahrain’s Ministry of Culture.

He is a former editor-in-chief of Josoor magazine, a quarterly concerned with translation and its studies issued by the Syrian General Book Organization of the Ministry of Culture; also a former editorial board member of Al-Adab al-Alamiyya, of the Arab Writers Union, Damascus.

He is writes frequently in the Arab cultural and intellectual press, and has published many studies and research in Arab periodicals. He also edited a number of articles in the Arabic Encyclopedia, published by the General Authority of the Arabic Encyclopedia, Damascus.

He has participated in many Arab and international conferences concerned with issues of thought, culture and translation.
