Ibrahim Nasrallah
Ibrahim Nasrallah was born in Amman, Jordan, in 1954, and raised in Alwehdat Palestinian refugee camp there. He worked in journalism from 1978 to 1996.
From 1996 to 2002 he was director of cultural affairs at the Darat al-Funoun, Abdu Hameed Shoman Foundation in Amman and later vice-president.
and has published 14 poetry collections and 16 novels, Four of his novels and a volume of poetry have been translated into English, including: Time of White Horses, which was shortlisted for the International Prize for Arabic Fiction in 2009 and ; and .
His first novel Prairies of Fever (1985) was published in English translation in 1993 (Interlink, USA). He has published 14 collections of poetry and 16 novels, including his epic fictional project of eight novels covering 250 years of modern Palestinian history. Since 2006, he has been a full-time writer. He is translated into several languages and has four novels in English and one poetry collection. His English translations include Gaza Weddings (2004, English edition 2017)
He has won prizes for his work, including the Owais award for poetry 1997. He won the ’Arrar prize (1991 and the Tayseer Sbool Prize for a novel (1994).
His novel, Time of White Horses (AUC Press) was short-listed for the International Prize for Arabic Fiction 2008-2009, and for the 2014 Middle East Monitor Prize for Best Novel about Palestine. To read a review of Time of White Horses on the New Statesman, click here.
His novel Lanterns of the King of Galilee was longlisted for the IPAF in 2013 and published in translation by AUC Press in 2015. The Second War of the Dog is shortlisted for the 2018 International Prize for Arabic Fiction.
His novel The Spirits of Kilimanjaro (2015) won the 2016 Katara Prize for the Arabic Novel, and in 2020 he won the prize again for A Tank Under the Christmas Tree, the first author to have won the prize twice.
