Leila Marouane
was born in 1960 in Algeria. She studied French literature at the University of Algiers and the University of Paris VIII. She left Algeria in 1990 to train as a journalist on Le Monde newspaper in Paris, later working in Algiers, Berlin, Zurich and Paris. Her first novel La Fille de la Casbah was published in 1996. She now writes full-time and lives between Paris and Zurich.
