is a novelist and journalist born in Beirut in 1950, where he lives and works. He has published five novels, the first The House of Mathilde was excerpted in Banipal No 4, 1999, translated by Peter Theroux, and published by Granta Books later that year (now out of print). He is cultural editor of Al-Mustaqbal newspaper in Beirut.

His novel, Year of the Revolutionary New Bread-Making Machine, translated by Randa Jarrar, and excerpted in Banipal 29, was published by Saqi Books, October 2007.  In 2009 his novel Borrowed Time was published in English translation.
