was born in 1963. He has a PhD in Arabic Language and Literature from SOAS London University, and is Course Director, M.A. Arabic/English Translation, Faculty of Modern Languages, Durham University, UK.

Among his publications are Modern Arabic Short Stories: A Bilingual Reader, with Ronak Husni, and the translation of An Imam in Paris: Al-Tahtawi’s visit to France (1826-31) by Rifa’a al-Tahtawi (both Saqi Books, 2008).
