Omar el-Kiddi is a poet and short story writer, born in Gherian, Libya in 1959. After teaching chemistry and biology he turned to journalism, becoming co-founder and also chief editor of Aljamahiriyah newspaper’s literary supplement. In 1992 he became the paper’s editor-in-chief, and later managing editor of Al-Fusul al-Arba’a (Four Seasons) literary magazine. He published one poetry collection, which was refused distribution by the authorities. After that he left Libya (1999) and presently lives and works in the Netherlands. Some of his works have been translated into Dutch, Bulgarian, and English.
