Allison Blecker is a research associate at Swarthmore College, USA. She received her PhD from Harvard University in Arabic literature with a secondary field in comparative literature. Her dissertation, Eco-Alterity: Writing the Environment in the Literature of North Africa and the Middle East, is situated at the intersection of Arabic literature and the environmental humanities. She has a BA in Political Science and Middle Eastern Studies from New York University and an MA from the Center for Middle Eastern Studies, Harvard University. 

Allison’s translations of Arabic poetry have appeared in Banipal  and other publications and she co-translated Nouri Al-Jarrah's first collection of poetry in English translation, A Boat to Lesbos (Banipal Books, 2018). On 2 February 2021 A Boat to Lesbos was shortlisted for the inaugural Sarah Maguire Prize for Poetry Translation.
