Sophia Vasalou studied Arabic in London and has a PhD in classical Islamic theology. She has been a junior research fellow at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, and has taught moral philosophy and other subjects at the European College of Liberal Arts in Berlin. She is currently a Research Fellow at Oxford Brookes University, and is the author of several books including Moral Agents and their Deserts: The Character of Mu'tazilite Ethics (2008) and Schopenhauer and the Aesthetic Standpoint: Philosophy as a Practice of the Sublime (2013).
